Will my child be required to wear a mask all day?The New York State Department of Health has mandated that all students and adults are required to wear a mask, unless they have a medical or mental health exemption, in which case we will make accommodations for them.Teachers will provide mask breaks throughout the day and students will remove masks for snack and lunch. Masks breaks are determined by the teacher and must follow social distancing protocols.

How will arrival and dismissal work at Lima? Whether students ride the bus or are driven to school by a family member, a staggered system will be in place. Our school day begins at 8:30. Buses will be unloaded as they arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. We will communicate drop off windows for parents once we have final numbers of families driving students to school. Parent pick up at the end of the day will begin at 2:45. A pick up window will be communicated prior to the start of the year based on final numbers. Buses will be loaded in a staggered fashion as well with the goal of all students being dismissed by 3:10. More specific information on these procedures will be sent to Lima parents before the start of the school year.

What will a classroom at Lima look like? All of our classrooms will meet the safety guidelines required by the NY State Education Department. These guidelines include social distancing/barriers, and mask use. We have added additional teachers at the grade level to reduce class size. We have planned for every student returning for in-person (about 16 students in a class), but will not be able to determine final class size until we have final enrollment from families. Our classrooms at Lima have tables. We are installing barriers for each table and reducing the number of students that will sit at each table. For example, our flower shaped tables can seat up to 6-students, but we are reducing the number of students to 4, with dividers.
-
What will a day look like for a student at Lima? Lima students will begin their day in the classroom and remain there for lunch, specials and instruction. Teachers are encouraged to use our outdoor space for walking breaks, recess, or when appropriate for instruction. Physical education will continue to occur three times per week either in the gym with proper social distancing, classroom, or outside. Art of music will be provided twice per week, for ten weeks, alternating every ten weeks so that students will have both specials two different times of the year. Library class will take place in students' classrooms once per week. Students will be dismissed by bus from their classroom.
-
What will remote learning look like for elementary students? Grades K-5 will follow an established modified schedule during school hours for online learning at home. Learning will be synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous learning will include class meetings, direct instruction in either whole, small group, or 1:1. Asynchronous learning will include opportunities to independently practice skills. Teachers will communicate the schedule (synchronous vs. asynchronous sessions) to students and families prior to the start of each week. Seesaw will be used for student engagement and communication with students and families in grades K-2 and an iPad will be provided to each student. There is a sample schedule found on page 27 of the reopening plan posted on the District website.
-
For remote learning, are students required to be online every day? Will there be packets sent home? Students and teachers are required to have contact every day according to the guidance. There will be a set schedule (found on page 27 of the reopening plan posed on the District website). Teachers will communicate with families the schedule for synchronous sessions prior tot he start of each week. It has not been determined yet, if he synchronous sessions will be recorded. There may be supplemental materials sent home, such as journals and workbooks that students would have access to in the classroom setting as well.

If we choose to begin the school year in person, but realize it is not working for us, are we able to pull back to remote learning without waiting until the semester is complete? The District is asking for a commitment for the first semester (20-weeks). With that being said, if you begin in-person learning and then do not feel comfortable or the infection rate changes, you will be able to move to remote learning. However, we are not allowing students to go back and forth between in-person and remote. Once you are on remote learning, you will need to commit to that for the semester.
-
Will there be teachers who are only providing instruction virtually, or will their class include students who are attending school in-person and students who are attending virtually? This will be determined based on final enrollment. Our goal is to have student placement decisions to you for in-person or remote learning by August 21.

How much time will kindergarten students spend on devices in the classroom? Kindergarten students have always had access to iPads in the classroom. New this year, they will be issued their own device, similar to grades 1-12. This is mainly to support online learning, should we need to go fully remote at any point during the year. With that said, classroom teachers have used iPads in the classroom to reinforce skills taught. Students are able to read books using the RAZ-Kids app or practice math skills using various apps. Students will not be on an iPad all day long. It is a tool to complement classroom instruction.
-
Will there be a meet and greet? Kindergarten meet and greet will occur September 8 & 9. This event will need to look different. More information will be provided when student placement is determined. We are trying to determine when and how to provide this opportunity for 1st grade, given the situation. If we do move forward with this event, it will need to look different. Our decision and plan will be available when student placement is determined.

How will arrival and dismissal work at Manor? Whether students ride the bus or are driven to school by a family member, a staggered system will be in place. Our school day begins at 8:30. Buses will be unloaded as they arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. We ask parents of students with last names A-L to drop off children at 8:30 and those whose last names begin with M-Z to drop off at 8:38 to keep traffic fluid and efficient while promoting a safe arrival. Classes end at 2:55 this year. Therefore, we are asking parents to arrive no earlier than 2:55 to pick up their child. Families A-L are asked to pick up between 2:55-3:03, and M-Z, 3:03-3:10. Buses will be loaded in a staggered fashion as well with the goal of all students dismissed by 3:15. More specific information on these procedures will be sent to Manor parents directly and posted on our website.

What will our student schedule look like? Manor students will begin their day in the classroom and remain there for lunch, specials and instruction. Teachers are encouraged to use our outdoor space for walking breaks, traveling or when appropriate for instruction. Physical education will continue to occur three times a week either in the gym with proper distancing, or outside. Art or music will be provided twice per week, for ten weeks, alternating every ten weeks. so that students will have both specials two different times of the year. Library class will take place in students' home base classroom one per week. We will not be providing technology classes at this time. Both band and chorus have been postponed until NYS guidelines allow them to safely resume. Band lessons will continue, yet may be less frequent as they will be taught on a one to one bases, rather than small group.

How will arrival and dismissal work at Middle School? Students who ride the bus will be dropped off in the front bus loop between 7:20 and 7:35 am. Students will enter the school building by the main entrance or by the front entrance near the auditorium. Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:20 am as they will not be allowed to enter the building until that time.
Students who are being driven to school by parents should be dropped off in the South parking lot.
Please note: Our district has changed the entrance and exit signs for this lot. Parents will now enter the parking lot using the driveway closest to the bus garage. They will follow a path along the outside perimeter of the lot and will drop off students at Door #6 (by the gym). They will exit the lot via the driveway closest to the school building. This new flow will allow for less back up of cars on Quaker Meeting House Road waiting to enter the parking lot.
All students entering the building must report directly to their assigned homeroom. If a student wishes to purchase breakfast, they may do so in the cafeteria, but they must bring it to their homeroom.
At dismissal, (2:05-2:20 pm) students will remain in their last class of the day until dismissed by their bus number over the PA system. Approximately 1/3 of the students will exit at a time. This will reduce the likelihood that students will come in contact with one another as they exit the building.
Students will not be allowed to congregate in large open areas of the building as they typically do during arrival or dismissal.

What will our student schedule look like? In an effort to reduce the number of times per day that students will move from class to class and to reduce the number of times that students learning at home would need to log into Zoom sessions, the Middle School will be converting its traditional 8 set day into a block schedule. In a block schedule, students experience all classes assigned in a traditional 8 set day but they are now stretched out over two school days. Instead of participating in 40-minute classes every day, they will now participate in 80-minute classes every other day.
Students in grade 6 will attend school every day in smaller “pods” of approximately 13 students per room. Students will spend most of their school day in that pod, including eating their lunch. During some sets of the day, sixth graders will be escorted by teachers to different rooms to participate in specials. In this model, students will participate in all classes, including specials, every other day.
Students in grades 7 and 8 will attend classes in person every other week. The students who remain home for their off weeks will still be expected to participate in classes via Zoom at the same time as their peers. Instruction will be delivered simultaneously for students in school and at home. Students will need to follow their assigned schedule (to be distributed during the last week of August.) It will be critical for students to keep their school assigned laptops charged and in good working order to successfully access and participate in daily instruction. In this model, core area classes will meet every other day and special area classes will meet every 4th day. Lastly, students in grades 7 and 8 will eat in rotations that will limit the maximum capacity of the cafeteria to 50 students or less eating lunch at one time. Barriers will be used on our octagon tables. This will allow 4 students to sit at one table at a time when eating.
The calendar that identifies the 4-day (A1, A2, B1, B2) rotation will be sent home to families with team placement letters on August 21st. That calendar will indicate which weeks certain students in grade 7 and 8 are attending school in person and which weeks they will remain learning at home. The alphabet will be divided to schedule approximately 50% of student in grades 7 and 8 for that weekly rotation. The Middle School will split students into two groups based upon our school colors: black and gold. To help families keep track of these weeks, we will coordinate with the high school so that siblings can attend school in person following the same rotation.
-
How will our classrooms be set up? All classrooms will meet the safety guidelines set forth by the NY State Education Department. These guidelines include proper social distancing, use of barriers, and wearing of masks. By spacing grade 6 students into smaller pods and by only allowing half of grade 7 and 8 to attend every other week, most classrooms will seat between 12-15 students. Desks and tables will be arranged to keep students 6 feet apart from peers and 10 feet from teachers. In some cases, barriers may be provided to provide additional protection.
-

The New York State Department of Health has mandated that all students and adults are required to wear a mask, unless they have a medical or mental health exemption, in which case we will make accommodations for them. -
What will remote learning look like for Middle School students?
Students and teachers are required to have contact every day according to the guidance. Students will be expected to “attend” school via Zoom and participate in lessons as they are being delivered live. Our district has invested in technology that will allow students in classrooms and at home to hear and speak to one another as if all were in attendance. Students at home should wear their earbuds and use their microphones to participate in classes.
Some hard copies of materials will be distributed to students for to work on at home.

What will the High School Schedule be?
For the start of this academic school year, students will be participating in our hybrid model and they will follow their typical schedule, inclusive of elective offerings. What hybrid means is, one week 50% of our students will be attending in person while the other half will be attending virtually, at home.
-
How are the two High School Teams determined? These two groups will be identified as Black team (A-L) and the Gold team (M-Z). However, some students, due to special circumstances, will attend daily.
-
Will my child be required to wear a mask?In accordance to New York State safety guidelines, classrooms will be set up to maximize student health and safety with the use of barriers and implementation of socially distant desks. It is expected that students and adults will wear masks whenever traveling from one location to another or when they are not able to be six feet apart. In addition, to minimize students from congregating in the hallways, lockers will not be assigned. Furthermore, narrow hallways and stairwells will be assigned one way traffic patterns to continue to maximize student safety. While in the classroom, teachers will provide mask breaks throughout the day. Masks breaks are determined by the teacher and must follow social distancing protocols.
-
What are the hours of operation for the High School? The hours of operation will be every weekday from 7:15-2:15. Because there are no before or after school activities students are encouraged to arrive no earlier than 7:15 and to return home at the end of the school day to minimize social gathering.
-
When does the first class start? 7:30 A.M.
-
When does the last class end? 2:00 P.M.
-
When is new student orientation? The High School will continue with its Link Crew Program. The purpose of which is to help new students feel more comfortable, as well as help them achieve success, in their first year of high school. This year, on September 1st, new students and Link Leaders will take part in their first day activities remotely.
-
When is the first day of school? Classes will begin on Tuesday, September 8th. On that day, all students should report to their first period classes by 7:30 a.m., this includes students attending remotely and in person. Students will follow their Monday schedules for the first day of school. The remainder of the week will follow Wednesday-Friday schedules.
