Instructional Calendars

The 2020-2021 HFLCSD school calendar has been reviewed by the Board of Education and reflects an effort to support our students’ well-being by providing days off during long stretches of the school year and to manage some unique features of the government holidays and designations.

This year, Labor Day will fall on the latest day possible, September 7, 2020. Most years, students are typically back to school a few days before September 7. Starting after Labor Day will cause our students to go long stretches during the course of the school year without a day off. In an attempt to improve this situation, the District’s first day of school for students will start on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. School will be closed on September 4 and 7, 2020 which allows for a four-day Labor Day weekend.

Often, the first days of school are focused on new routines and orientations. By starting before Labor Day, our students are able to ease into school, understand procedures and expectations, relieve back-to-school nervousness, and then enjoy a four-day weekend.

Also, November 25, 2020, and December 23, 2020, will now be vacation days. If school were to open after Labor Day, the District would need to be open on those days.
