Board of Education

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education consists of nine community residents elected by District voters to serve three-year terms. The school board is charged with

Hiring the district superintendent
Maintaining district policies
Reviewing and approving a fiscally responsible school budget

Regularly Scheduled Meetings

Residents are encouraged to attend school board meetings, which are regularly held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held in the board meeting room at the High School. The most up to date Board of Education meeting dates can be found on the online calendar section of the District website.

Public Comment

An agenda item called "Public Comment" invites the public and all other stakeholders in our children's education to comment on matters regarding the school district. Please keep in mind the following guidelines about Public Comment:

  • Comments may be made about current agenda items

  • Items involving specific personnel and students should be directed to the appropriate school administrator in private

  • The Board of Education reserves the right to limit the speaking time based on the number of potential speakers

Your Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District Board of Education cordially invites you to take an active role in the educational affairs of our community. There are multiple ways to get involved, including:

Public Budget Advisory Council (PBAC)

The PBAC includes community members, Board of Education members and District advisors who meet weekly from January through mid-March to review, offer feedback and make recommendations regarding all of the programs and services being recommended for the upcoming school year based on information from each site. The PBAC advises the District and Board of Education as to the strategic wisdom of program proposals, as well as the affordability of those proposals.   If you are interested in participating on the PBAC, please contact Bruce Capron, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations.

HF-L Announces BOE Seat Release

April 20, 2020 is the last day to file petitions for three seats on the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education. Three of our nine board seats are to be filled in an election on May 19, 2020.  The terms of board members Chris Neff, Caralyn Ross, and Amy West are set to expire on June 30, 2020.  At this time, Mr. Neff and Mrs. Ross have announced their intention to run again. The New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) has launched a new website entitled, The School Board Member Experience. For a complete overview and highlights of what to expect as a new board member, please visit the site and enjoy the experience!

If you are interested in running for a seat on the Board of Education, you will seek a petition from the Board of Education Clerk with a deadline for submission of April 20, 2020.  You will submit with your petition, a short bio and headshot photo for the budget newsletter.  Finally, you will be provided an opportunity to speak on your own behalf about why you are running.  The District hosts a 'Meet the Candidates' Night two weeks prior to the election.  If you have turned in a petition, someone will be in direct contact with you about this event.  Also, please tell others to watch the District Calendar for more information, and for the time/location.

Fraud Reporting

Anonymous reports of potential fraud, consistent with NY State Law, can be reported to the administration and Board of Education in the following ways:

The Board of Education has an active Audit Committee that works with the District's External Auditor, Internal Auditor and Claims Auditor to assure maximum efficiency and internal controls in District financial matters.  Further detail is available on the Business Department Webpage.  Annual audit reports are available for inspection by contacting the Board Clerk, Rhonda Schaefer, at 624-7010.
