Information Regarding Security Cameras and Student Privacy
The safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority and one of the District's Strategic Intents. The following information is intended to provide clarity regarding the District's security camera systems and how they are used.
The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District does not utilize facial recognition technology and does not collect biometric information through its camera system. New York State has prohibited the use of facial recognition technology in schools, and the District complies with all applicable New York State laws and regulations governing school security and data privacy.
The District utilizes Avigilon security cameras as part of its building safety program, and the use of these cameras is governed by Board of Education policy. Some cameras include license plate recognition capabilities. Access to camera footage is restricted to authorized school personnel, and information from the District's security camera system is not shared with outside organizations or third parties.
